• Higher Ground initial primary impact area is census tract 817 bounded by Warren, Dudley, Washington, Elmore and Monroe Streets and Humboldt Ave. and Martin Luther King Blvd. with plans to extend the impact area to the neighborhoods along the Dudley to Mattapan Square corridor.


• Higher Ground’s initial impact area is home to 1,357 households consisting of 3,820 residents, 73% African American and 20% Latino.
• Nearly one third of the area residents are school age and younger including 239 under the age 5 and 959 with ages in grades K-12.
• 100% school age children are enrolled in school and 82% have graduated high school, have a GED, or have post-secondary education and degrees.
• The area includes five affordable housing resident-owned cooperatives or section 8 assisted housing developments — Warren Gardens, Charlame I, Charlame II, Marksdale and St. Joseph’s. Residents of these five developments represent nearly half of all households in our target area with combined total of 676 apartments.
• 25% of area households incomes were below the federal poverty level in 2010 ($10,800 for a one-person household, $14,500 2-person household, $18,300 3-person household, $22,000 4-person household).
